Tebas suggests Laporta should resign as Barca president if he doesn't explain the referee payment |
"If [Laporta] does not give a reasonable explanation [of the referee payment case], he should resign. He will have to give it," La Liga president Javier Tebas has told the media, via El Mundo.
"Everyone, even Barcelona themselves, want the case to be investigated.
"They have only expressed their deep concern to us and that they have launched an internal investigation, but nothing more. No reasonable explanation has been given," Tebas also said.
Last week, it was reported that Barcelona provided former La Liga referee Negreira with multiple payments from 2016 to 2018. However, both the club and the former official claim that Barca only appealed to him to receive 'technical reports' on referees and lower-league players.
Barcelona may still face any kind of sporting or financial sanction despite Tebas initially claiming that the club would not be punished – this is because of the new exposing details of the case emerging.
