Players of the female side of DR Congo team DC Motema Pembe physically assaulted a referee in their match against TP Mazembe Women in Lubumbashi.
The plight of these female footballers was the fact that the referee failed to award them a penalty which could have given them the opportunity to get a consolation goal in a match they were already losing 5-1.
In a viral video shared on social media, the referee was then given a hot chase by furious players of DC Motema Pembe who followed him from the penalty area of TP Mazembe through to the middle area and then around the touchline where he was finally caught.
Surprisingly, there were no stewards or security personnel to intervene, leaving the referee to rely on sympathisers to come to his aid.
The incident captured in the video below has been rightfully condemned.

Social media users reacted to the viral video with shock, with many calling for the players involved to be banned from football for life.
“CAF should step in immediately,” one Twitter post read. “This errant team should be completely disbanded.
“The players involved in this disgraceful act should never have to play professional football again. Everyone involved should be made to pay in one way or the other.”
