Emiliano Martinez and his Argentina team-mates recreate his infamous lewd Golden Glove celebration with the World Cup trophy in their first match since Qatar glory in Buenos Aires.
Emiliano Martinez recreated the controversial celebration that landed him in hot water following the 2022 World Cup final last night as Argentina returned to action for the first time since they were crowned world champions.
Goals from Lionel Messi and Thiago Almada saw Lionel Scaloni's side defeat Panama 2-0 in a friendly, amid what was a carnival atmosphere inside the Estadio Monumental and around Buenos Aires, with 80,000 fans packing the terraces to cheer on their world champions.
Following the final whistle, the party commenced with the team taking to the field with their families to present the World Cup trophy to the fans as fireworks rocketed off in the background.
Scaloni had picked the same starting eleven from the final against France, a game in which Martinez proved pivotal, pulling off an incredible save in extra-time to deny Randal Kolo Muani and take the game to penalties.
The Aston Villa shot stopper then went on to save a penalty in the resulting shootout, with his heroics in the match, and throughout the tournament, earning him the Golden Glove award.
After the game, Martinez was presented with his trophy and made a lewd gesture with the award, an act which earnt him a lot of criticism from pundits, fans and even his manager Unai Emery.
The Spaniard had also admitted that he was so 'unimpressed' with the gesture that he was 'keen to sell the goalkeeper', while FIFA had opened an investigation against the Argentine's actions for a violation of their rules on offensive behaviour and fair play under article 11 of their Disciplinary Code.
Despite that not going down so well, Martinez, decided to once again recreate his infamous gesture, and was followed by reserve keeper Geronimo Rulli, Guido Rodriguez, Marcos Acuna and German Pezzella joining him doing the same celebration.
Martinez had suggested after the World Cup final that the gesture was a joke among his teammates, with Messi, who netted his 800th goal for club and country during the game against Panama, telling him not to do it.
'The gesture I made with the best goalkeeper trophy was a joke with my teammates,' he said after winning the World Cup.
'I had already done it at the Copa America, and they all said to me: 'No way' to do it again.
'Even Leo told me that. I did it for them, nothing more. It lasted a second and that was it.'

Yet his latest antics haven't gone down so well with some online, with one Twitter user calling his recreation of the lewd gesture 'cringe' while another said it was 'classless'.
While BT Sport Football called the celebration 'a modern classic recreated', others took to twitter to lambast the celebrations as 'embarrassing' with one user saying: 'Embarrasing football is ruined.'
While another suggested: 'Yeah no its embarrassing and trashy.'
Despite the controversy following the World Cup, Martinez has continued to get regular game time for Aston Villa, making 10 league appearances for the midlands side, amassing four clean sheets since returning from the World Cup.
