Gary Neville claimed Bruno Fernandes asked to be subbed off at 6-0 down, fan footage has emerged

Gary Neville claimed to have spotted Bruno Fernandes asking to 'come off' after Manchester United went 6-0 down against Liverpool – and now fan footage of the incident has emerged.

It was an afternoon to forget for Erik ten Hag's side, who suffered their heaviest defeat of the season by some distance against a rampant Liverpool.

Cody Gakpo, a player that was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford, bagged a brace at Anfield, as did Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah before substitute Roberto Firmino got in on the act.

In fact, Salah became Liverpool's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer in the 83rd minute when he tapped home from close range to make it 6-0.

After scoring his 129th goal for Jurgen Klopp's outfit, the stadium announcer informed the Anfield crowd of his incredible achievement. But elsewhere, co-commentator Gary Neville spotted something going on.

"Bruno Fernandes is stood in the centre circle with his arms raised asking: ‘Why is it me not coming off?'," Neville said. "Honestly, I have to say some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace."

Neville suggests a frustrated Fernandes was struggling to hide his discontent at being left on the pitch as Anthony Elanga replaced Marcus Rashford in the final minutes.

Sky cameras failed to show his so-called outburst but footage from the stands has since emerged showing the Portuguese midfielder's reaction. You can watch it below.

Neville did not hold back in his assessment of United's abysmal display in the second half.

“The second half has been an absolute disgrace, a shambles,” he said while on commentary. “They have not been epitomised more than Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing – a shambles – in this game.

“There was a VAR check for an elbow – it was on his chest,” Neville said on the incident with Konate.

“Oh, he holds his face. That’s embarrassing from Bruno Fernandes. It’s on his chest and he goes down. He’s so frustrating at times.”

Then, after the full-time whistle, Neville added: “I’m going to start with Bruno Fernandes. I’ve had enough of him throwing his arms around at his teammates, I’ve had enough of him not running back. He whinges at everybody.

“He got pushed in the chest and goes down holding his face… he’s got to put a captain’s performance out there and that wasn’t a captain’s performance by a Manchester United player.

“I think Erik ten Hag will deal with him very, very strongly in this next 24-48 hours.”
