Paul Scholes compares Alejandro Garnacho to a ‘young Cristiano Ronaldo’

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has detailed why Alejandro Garnacho reminds him of a young Cristiano Ronaldo and what he needs to do to improve.

It has been a year to remember for the Argentine forward, who has made 31 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side in all competitions this season.

And after scoring important goals against Real Sociedad, Fulham and Leeds, the teenager has reportedly reached an 'agreement in principle' to sign a new five-year deal with the Premier League club.

Garnacho's influence has been there for all to see, especially from off the bench, where he often makes a real impact when given the chance to shine.

He has been praised by many of late. Earlier this month, former United striker Robin van Persie labelled the 18-year-old a 'very talented' player for the way he handles pressure.

And now, one of the club's all-time greats says Garnacho reminds him of a younger version of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to YouTube channel Webby & O'Neill, Paul Scholes was full of praise for the winger, who looks set to earn a call-up to Lionel Scaloni's next Argentina squad.

"I'm really excited about him," Scholes said. "Whenever I see him I'm impressed. He's a superstar in the making. He's so brave in possession. He's very much the way Cristiano was as a young player.

"He doesn't mind being kicked, he gets up, he goes for more he scores goals. He's got a lot of growing to do and once he gets a manly body and physical strength, I don't think there's much stopping him."

Garnacho has not only received praise from former players, but current ones, too. United midfielder Fred tipped his teammate to become one of the world's best players after he scored against West Ham at the start of March.

"Garnacho had a very good game today, a good score, and he had nice play," the Brazilian said after the full-time whistle.

"He’s a young player. He will be one of the best players in the world, for sure. Today, he scored and played well and he needs to keep going."

Thoughts on Garnacho's potential? Can he become of the world's best?
