Ruud Gullit slams Wout Weghorst claiming he is 'not good enough' to play for Man United or Holland

Wout Weghorst has been told he is "not good enough" for Manchester United and the Netherlands national team after another dismal showing.

Weghorst lead the line for Ronald Koeman's side in the 3-0 win over 10-man Gibraltar, with Nathan Ake bagging a brace and Memphis Depay also finding the net.

The Netherlands had a ridiculous 51 attempts on goal and yet Weghorst, who had three shots, failed to find the net against a side ranked 200th in the world.

It continues the giant striker's struggles in front of goal at club level, where he has scored just twice in 18 games after joining United on loan from Burnley.

Weghorst has shown he is more than a goalscorer with his link up play but former Holland midfielder Ruud Gullit came down hard on him after his latest blank.

The ex Chelsea and AC Milan man said he looks at the former Wolfsburg man "in a weird way", and that "every now and then you see defects" in his game.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport, the 60-year-old opined: "I have a lot of admiration for him, but at the same time, I think he is not good enough for Manchester United and the Oranje."

The stance from Gullit was shared amongst plenty of United fans, who aren't convinced about the possibility of a permanent deal happening.

The 30-year-old was even scolded by an interviewer after failing to get on the scoresheet.

In the mixed zone afterwards, the journalist asked him, "Wout, imagine we would have continued this game for another 48 hours. Would you have scored a goal?"

Weghorst was typically modest in his response and simply said, "Good question. At least I would have had more time. I did my best, but time was up."

Still, a number of supporters felt it was disrespectful to ask such a question even if Weghorst handled it.

Weghorst returns to club action with United this weekend as they take on Champions League hopefuls Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday.

Weghorst is still searching for his first Premier League goal for United, with his two strikes coming in the Carabao Cup and Europa League.
