Barcelona to ask every single player to take a wage cut as finances remain an issue

Barcelona are considering some very drastic measures to get their costs down, and players could be asked to take some big pay cuts.

The past few years have not been kind to Barcelona's bank accounts, with the Spanish giants struggling when it comes to wages and transfer fees.

In the past couple of summers, they have found it tough to register players for the season, with Gavi not even being considered a first team player right now.

It could even lead to further issues for them, with Elche claiming the midfielder shouldn't have been eligible for the match between the two teams, and appealing to the Spanish FA.

Their finances made it tough to sign players in January, and it could affect Xavi's plans for the summer, with reports he wants to make Lionel Messi a central midfielder.

Messi may be able to get his hands on some of the club's ticket sales if he re-signs, because there's no way the Catalan giants could afford his wages.

In fact, they can't, or shouldn't, afford the wages of the current squad, and will be looking to do something about after the season has finished.

According to Relevo, they are struggling to fit into their salary limits for the next campaign and are considering asking every player in the squad to take a 15% wage cut.

The club are hoping to save around £61 million from the proposed wage cuts, which would certainly help them when it comes to their limits.

In order for it to work every member of the league leaders squad would have to agree to take the cut, which might take some persuading.

What will make it more difficult for the club will be any high profile signings coming to the club next season, who won't be playing at the Nou Camp.

As well as Messi, who has other high paying offers, Xavi is also desperate to bring in a right back in the next transfer window, with Joao Cancelo a possible loan signing.

Finances aren't the only problem that La Liga leaders Barca face, with the club facing charges over alleged corruption, which rivals Real Madrid aren't happy with.

They could face legal action from Los Blancos and, if they're found guilty, could be severely punished, which might even include relegation.
