Blackburn furious as Coventry goalkeeper seems to score 95th-minute equaliser with hands

Coventry City goalkeeper Ben Wilson was accused of punching the ball into the back of the net, as he scored a huge equaliser against Blackburn Rovers.

We really are in the business end of the season, as promotion and relegation battles start to come to their dramatic endings, and clubs find out their fates.

On Tuesday night, Leyton Orient found out they were going to be in League One next season, after the strangest of confirmed promotions in some time.

Orient were confirmed as going up despite losing to Gillingham, due to Bradford City's 1-0 defeat at Swindon Town, leading to their players celebrating whilst the game was still going on.

The race to get into the Football League looks all but over now, with Wrexham needing just three points to get promoted from their final two games.

Their story has become one of the most interesting in football, thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney's ownership of the club, with a former Premier League player even ready to get on board.

Of course, one of the most intriguing stories at this time of the year is the play-offs, which teams get in and which team will end up getting promoted.

The Championship race is certainly interesting, and on Wednesday night it took a huge twist, as Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City, two sides in the hunt for the final play-off spot, both met.

It looked like Rovers would capture all three points, thanks to Sam Gallagher's 39th minute goal, until Wilson went up for a corner in the 95th minute.

Wilson bundled the ball into the back of the net, and it appeared he'd done so with his hand, and Rovers certainly felt that was the case.

 "From a corner, Coventry's goalkeeper Wilson handled the ball into the net...," the hosts Twitter account posted on social media, along with an awkward emoji face.

A Burnley fan was certainly having fun with their rivals dropping points in such a fashion, posting, "To be fair, you’ve got to hand it to Coventry for that comeback, bastards can shoulder no blame, the Sky Blues came up for that corner armed and ready. Guy Garvey and Elbow couldn’t have written a better crescendo for a Championship game."

Another Claret added, "Don't you just Glove a last minute goal by the keeper. Gotta hand it to Coventry, touch of class. Beautiful scenes."

And a Millwall fan added their delight, replying, "Coventry scoring is huge for us. What makes it so so much better is the fact that their keeper scored and it was handball."

Speaking after the match, Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson said, "I have seen it back. The referee was in a perfect position as well. I think even me and you would have spotted that."

The result means that Millwall remain in the last play-off spot with 65 points, one above Blackburn and two clear of West Bromwich Albion, with three games left, though Rovers have a game in hand.

Coventry are also on 63 points, thanks to their point, with Sunderland, Norwich City and Preston North End all a point back and still in with a chance.
