“Chelsea’s Big Move: Stamford Bridge Exit Could Mean New Name for Club”

Chelsea could look to 'change their name' if they leave Stamford Bridge due to their obscure stadium arrangements.

The Blues are thought to be seeking a move away from the Bridge and follow in the footsteps of their London rivals Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United, who have all found a new home.

However, former owner Roman Abramovich and Todd Boehly as well as Behdad Eghbali have faced issues over getting the plans underway.

According to The Sun, the club find themselves in a unique situation as Stamford Bridge is owned by thousands of fans in shares.

The Chelsea Pitch Owners PLC (CPO) have a major say on whether the team can move and continue with their historic name.

In order to continue under 'Chelsea', the group have to approve the move from Stamford Bridge.

What's more, The CPO also own the freehold to the ground and the current bosses would have to acquire it off the group to allow them to have control of the stadium.

But the process could provide Boehly with a headache if Abramovich's attempts are anything to go by. The Russian billionaire tried to buy the land in 2012, but CPO shareholders rejected the offer.

The idea of moving away from Stamford Bridge, which has been Chelsea's home since 1905, has split the fanbase, with some content on staying at their current site while others are keen to upgrade their home to keep up with the likes of Arsenal and Spurs.

Chelsea's stadium situation continues to rumble on in the background, with the club enduring a difficult campaign this season.

They occupy a spot in the bottom half of the Premier League table and are out of the FA Cup. But they remain in the Champions League as they face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Frank Lampard is back at the helm on a caretaker basis until the end of the season following the dismissal of Graham Potter.
