Diogo Jota using Cristiano Ronaldo and ketchup as inspiration to end goal drought

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is using Cristiano Ronaldo's ketchup analogy to help end his goalscoring drought.

Jota, much like Liverpool, has endured a disastrous campaign plagued by injury.

The 26-year-old suffered a calf issue in October, limiting him to just four appearances before February.

But since returning to the side, Jota has failed to manage a single goal.

The Portugal international will be hoping to end his drought on Monday evening when the Reds travel to Elland Road to face Leeds in the Premier League.

But to help him, he is taking inspiration from Ronaldo, citing his comments about ketchup as a reason to keep faith.

Ketchup isn't something you would usually associate with five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar is more renowned for his incredible knack for goals, ranking as the highest goalscorer of all time.a

But even Ronaldo has had the occasional barren run, and Jota is using his compatriot's words of wisdom to help get back on the scoresheet.

“Obviously I don’t want to finish the season without scoring a goal but I still have a few games so I try to get the focus to what I can do on the pitch to be in those decisive moments," said Jota (quotes via talkSPORT)

“I know that football is a game that can change very quickly and I once heard a story and Ronaldo certainly wasn’t 30 games, but he had a number of games without scoring and people were asking him.

“He was saying that it’s almost like ketchup. When the first drop comes out, everything comes out so hopefully that’s the case for me as well.”

Ronaldo used the analogy back in 2010 when he was on a 16-month goal drought for the Portuguese national team.

Although he soon put that behind him, going on to score a an eye-watering 198 goals for his country.
