Erling Haaland has been tipped to reach 1000 goals after he made it 45 for the season and broke another record against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
City thrashed Bayern 3-0 in the Champions League quarter final first leg at the Etihad Stadium, with former Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland scoring one and setting one up.
Rodri put Pep Guardiola's side 1-0 up with a stunning weak foot strike before Haaland unselfishly crossed for Bernardo Silva and wrapped up the win with a right footed volley from a John Stones knockdown in the second half.
It was his 45th strike of his debut campaign with City and means he now holds the record for the most goals in a single season in all competitions from a Premier League player.
The achievement previously belonged to former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who notched 44 in a superb 2002/03 campaign.
Ex Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole says Haaland will only improve in the coming years and believes is capable of reaching 1000 career goals if he stays fit.
"Just ridiculous," Cole said about Haaland on BT Sport.
‘His assist [for Bernardo Silva] was outstanding.
"The frightening thing is that he is just going to get better and better. He’s going to become more and more complete.
"I was saying to Rio [Ferdinand] I think he is going to score 1000 goals. He laughed at me.
"But look at the numbers, if he played until his mid 30s and doesn’t get injured [he can do it]."
Still only 22, Haaland has scored 200 club goals for City, Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg, Molde and Byrne - as well as 21 in 23 for the Norwegian national team.
Neither Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, who Haaland has been compared to by Pep Guardiola, have been able to score 1000 goals despite their record-breaking exploits.
The next record in his sight is the most goals in a Premier League season, with Haaland just five away from knocking Alan Shearer and Andy Cole off their perch after bagging his 30th against Southampton on Saturday.
He has nine games to go, starting with a visit of struggling Leicester City at the weekend.
