FA to take no further action regarding linesman who allegedly elbowed Andy Robertson

The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that no further action will be taken against assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis after a review of his alleged elbow towards Andrew Robertson during Liverpool’s Premier League draw with Arsenal.

Liverpool full-back Robertson approached Hatzidakis as the players were leaving the field for half-time and appeared to place his hand on the 29-year-old before Hatzidakis appeared to raise his arm towards Robertson.

However, the 38-year-old will not face any further action from the FA and they have concluded their investigation into the incident.

An FA Spokesperson said: “We have thoroughly reviewed all of the evidence in relation to the recent incident at Anfield involving the Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match official Constantine Hatzidakis, and we will be taking no further action.

“Our comprehensive process involved reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and PGMOL, as well as multiple angles of video footage, in relation to both the incident and its surrounding circumstances.”

Hatzidakis was stood down from fixtures while PGMOL investigated the incident.

“I fully assisted The FA with their investigation and have discussed the matter directly with Andy Robertson during an open and positive conversation,” Hatzidakis said. “It was certainly not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I pulled my arm away from him and for that I have apologised.

“I look forward to returning to officiating matches.”

The assistant referee has not been appointed to a match for this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures as the match official appointments were announced while the PGMOL investigation was still ongoing.

Liverpool are next in action against Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday.
