Newcastle United have been quoted a whopping £80 million for Mason Mount and fans genuinely can't believe it.

The Magpies currently occupy fourth spot in the Premier League table and look well-placed to book a spot in next season's Champions League campaign.

They plan to sign four 'elite' players when the summer transfer window reopens, with 16 players shortlisted, according to a transfer report.

But the club won't break their wage structure for the likes of Mount and West Ham United's Declan Rice.

Newcastle have been strongly linked with a move for Mount, but a transfer for the England international appears 'unrealistic' due to his wage demands and transfer fee.

The 24-year-old has been quoted for £80 million, including a staggering £250,000-a-week contract, per the Daily Mail.

People online couldn't believe the numbers surrounding a potential deal for the star midfielder.

One Twitter user wrote: "Mount is overrated. Can't get a game for an underperforming Chelsea team. Small. Maybe makes an impact once every 10 games. Not really sure what kind of midfielder he is."

A second tweeted: "He’s a decent player but absolutely no way he should be demanding that kind of money. What is he thinking?"

A third added: "Mount is beyond laughable, so overrated. Rice smashing player, but you could get same quality for half the price, or less, from continent."

A fourth said: "80m for Mount hahahahahahah deffo trying to cover his losses that maverick Boehly."

Another commented: "These are the fees we'll eventually be paying on a regular basis. But not for Mason Mount. 40m max!"

Other than loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby Count, Mount has spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge.

But a move away from London could be on the cards, with the player still yet to agree a new deal at the club.

Liverpool are also believed to be keeping tabs on Mount as they look to reinforce their midfield.

Where will he ply his from next season? Let us know.
