Former Club Player Accuses Lionel Messi of Joining Paris Saint Germain Solely for Money

Jerome Rothen, a former player of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has once again criticized Lionel Messi, stating that the Argentine joined the Ligue 1 team solely for financial gain.

Rothen further elaborated that Messi's departure from Barcelona was due to the Catalan club's inability to meet his salary demands.

Following Barcelona's failure to offer him a new deal, Messi joined PSG in 2021.

Although he struggled during his first season with the team, the Argentine has performed admirably this time around, contributing 15 goals and assists each in 27 Ligue 1 matches.

During his appearance on RMC Sports, Rothen alleged that Lionel Messi has expressed his desire to depart from PSG after focusing solely on earning money and showing no concern for the club. Rothen stated:

"I have no words. It's completely out of place. That's how much he doesn't give a damn about the world since he arrived. He didn't come for the right reasons, he only came for the financial conditions. In Barcelona, we know very well why he left. They could no longer pay him the way they paid him. There was such a huge deficit that they had to part with it."

The upcoming 2023-24 season will be intriguing to witness what lies ahead for Lionel Messi.
