Jose Mourinho wants Roma Women's star to play for his team

Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in including one of Roma Women's star players in his team as they strive to qualify for the Champions League, following a recent setback.

The football world has always been entertained by Mourinho, as he has constantly been in the spotlight ever since his time as Porto manager almost 20 years ago.

The Roma manager, who has already secured the Europa Conference League last season, is now aiming to win another Europa League medal this season and reminded Dutch journalists of his victory over Feyenoord when asked about the upcoming match against AZ Alkmaar.

Certainly, it is possible for Roma to win the Europa League this season as they have already made it to the semi-finals of the competition. They are set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the final four.

Winning the Europa isn't the only way that Roma can be in the Champions League next season though, as they continue to chase a top four spot.

The only problem is that the Giallorossi aren't in great form in Serie A right now, having lost to Atalanta last Monday and drawn with AC Milan on Saturday evening.

Both those games have come against other sides fighting to be in the top four, and with injury problems to the team, which included centre back Chris Smalling.

Now the manager has jokingly suggested he move one of the Roma Women stars to his team, after they won their league with games to spare.

Speaking about defender Carina Wenninger, the former Chelsea manager said, "The women’s team just won the Scudetto.

"They have a very good centre-back who played for Bayern Munich [Wenninger], maybe she can play for us!"

Wenninger is currently on loan from Bayern Munich this season, and the 32 year-old has a lot of experience, having played over 100 times for the Austria national team.

As well as Smalling, centre back Diego Llorente is also currently out for the Stadio Olimpico side, whilst Marash Kumbulla went off during the draw with Milan, and right back Rick Karsdorp is also missing.

"I don’t think we will see Rick Karsdorp on the field again this season. The same goes for Diego Llorente, while I doubt Kumbulla will be at 100 per cent again," the manager said after the game.

"We can hope to have Chris Smalling back in two or three games, if possible. Gini Wijnaldum is close to his comeback, I don’t know what the situation is with Paulo Dybala. We protected his adductor to get him playing against Atalanta, but he was on the bench and not meant to play. If Milan had scored today, I would not have put him on the pitch.

"Nemanja Matic is suspended against Monza, so we have to just keep going. I have been a coach at clubs that had 1,000 options, now I am in a group of extraordinary lads and I am proud to be working with them.

"Andrea Belotti couldn’t breathe after that blow to the ribs, he climbed up the stairs for the second half and raised the white flag, it was impossible to continue."

Tammy Abraham would have thought he'd grabbed the winner late in the game, when the striker scored in the 94th minute on Saturday.

However, Alexis Saelemaekers then got the equaliser three minutes later, leaving Mourinho and his side in sixth place, behind Milan and Inter Milan on their head-to-head record.

They next play Monza in midweek, before a huge game against Inter next weekend, which could end up being a decider for the top four places.
