Liverpool fans defend Trent Alexander-Arnold after Reece James performance against Madrid

Liverpool fans were quick to defend Trent Alexander-Arnold following Reece James' performance for Chelsea against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Real beat Chelsea 2-0 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to take a healthy advantage into next week's second-leg at Stamford Bridge.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 21st minute, with Marco Asensio doubling his side's lead in the 74th minute following Ben Chilwell's red card.

Chelsea fans bemoaned Marc Cucurella's involvement in his teammate's sending off, with Liverpool supporters also reacting to the quarter-final first-leg tie.

They took aim at James who failed to contain Vinicius Junior as they called out the double standards, defending the Liverpool star in the process.

One Twitter user wrote: "Notice nobody has mentioned this Reece James performance so far cos if it was Trent dropping the performance… the dialogue would very different. Interesting observation."

A second tweeted: "Reece James getting torn apart by Vinicius but you won't hear about it because it's not Trent."

A third added: "Reece James and Ben Chilwell being destroyed by Real Madrid tonight, with the latter now sent-off. And it's all Trent Alexander-Arnold's fault, of course."

A fourth said: "Lots of abuse for Trent when he has played against Vini. Curious to hear the experts' opinion on Reece James performance tonight."

A fifth commented: "Vinicius Jr just had Reece James on toast again but zero commentator criticism because his name isn’t Trent Alexander-Arnold."

Another opined: "Can't believe what Reece James gets away with because his name’s not Trent."

Alexander-Arnold has come under intense criticism following his showings for Liverpool this season.

The likes of Roy Keane and Gary Neville have slammed the 24-year-old, but it appears people online want the same treatment aimed at James following his outing against Real.
