Schneiderlin Supports Mane's Decision to Reject Manchester United in Favor of Liverpool

Morgan Schneiderlin, a former midfielder for Manchester United, affirmed that Sadio Mane made the correct decision by rejecting a transfer to Old Trafford in favor of Liverpool. Schneiderlin and Mane were previously teammates at Southampton.

Mane announced his presence in the Premier League with authority after an impressive stint with the Saints spanning two years from 2014 to 2016.

Following his time with the Saints, the Senegalese footballer went on to establish himself as one of the top players in global soccer, playing on the flank for Liverpool.

While at Anfield, Mane found the back of the net 120 times in 269 appearances and played a pivotal role in Jurgen Klopp's team's success, helping them secure every major trophy.

Nonetheless, the situation could have taken a completely different turn had Schneiderlin succeeded in his attempts.

The ex-Southampton and Man United midfielder revealed that he had made an effort to persuade Mane to join the Red Devils.

Schneiderlin, who joined United in 2015 from Southampton and stayed for two years, disclosed that his former manager Louis van Gaal had asked him to convince Mane to move to Old Trafford.

Despite the French midfielder's earnest attempts, Mane decided to remain with his team for an additional year before transferring to Liverpool for approximately £30 million.

On the Players Pod, Schneiderlin expressed, 'Right from day one, it was evident that Mane possessed exceptional talent and potential.'

“It took him a bit of time, a few months, to get really going. And then as soon as he started to score some goals, it was game over. It was amazing.

“I remember Louis van Gaal asking me about him coming to Man United. I tried my best for him to come as well.”

Schneiderlin admitted, however, that Mane made the right call choosing Liverpool.

The midfielder continued: “He wanted to stay one more year and go to Liverpool.

“I think the choice that he made was amazing. He arrived in the Liverpool squad that was just untouchable at the time.”
