Thomas Tuchel blames Bayern Munich's defeat to Man City on the pitch

Thomas Tuchel wasn't happy with TWO things following Bayern Munich's defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.

Bayern drew 1-1 with Man City in their quarter-final second-leg, losing the tie 4-1 on aggregate as they exit the competition.

Speaking after the game at the Allianz Arena, the German boss fumed at the state of the pitch and Clement Turpin, who sent him off during Wednesday's clash.

The 49-year-old bemoaned the pitch and gave the referee a rating of six out of 10 in a damning post-match assessment.

"Two things weren’t at the level today: the pitch and the referee," he said. "I would give him a 6 (worst possible rating), from his first to his last decision, I didn’t even see the foul in the penalty he gave us."

Dayot Upamecano appeared to slip on the turf as Erling Haaland ran through on goal to open the scoring.

And Turpin awarded two penalties as the Blues star blazed his spot-kick over the bar while Joshua Kimmich smashed home to level on the night.

Tuchel, however, was 'very satisfied' with his side's performance, but believes his team lacked the moment of 'luck' you need to turn things around.

"I think we had City on the hook again, even more so than in Manchester," he added. "But, like last week, we never had that moment of luck which you need to turn this around. I am very satisfied with how we performed.

"I'm very satisfied with both games against City, it was absolutely top. We went toe to toe with the best and most in-form team in Europe. We had them on the hook in both legs."

Tuchel continued: "There was a difference in self-confidence and form. For the few chances we conceded in both matches, we were punished. I don’t think the score-line reflects the tie."

Following their Champions League elimination, Bayern can only win the Bundesliga this season.

They currently sit at the top of the league, just two points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
