Gary Neville claims that Wout Weghorst has been more profitable for Manchester United than Cristiano Ronaldo. He compared the two players’ impact on the team using statistics. In Weghorst’s 19 starts, Man United won 12 games and scored 37 team goals. In Ronaldo’s 19 starts, Man United won 9 games and scored 23 team goals. Neville referred to Weghorst as a “placeholder” since United did not invest in a desired striker. Neville made these comments on Sky Sports after analyzing the players’ performances following Everton’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

In regards to the statistics, Neville stated, "This experiment needs to end, Weghorst should be replaced, the reason why he continues to play and why Ronaldo is no longer with the club is evident when you compare their 19 starts. Weghorst has 12 wins, four draws, and three losses.
He has scored only two goals, but the team has scored a total of 37 goals. Ronaldo, on the other hand, had 19 starts, with three fewer wins, three more losses, and three draws. He scored 11 goals, and the team scored only 23. The differences are enormous."
Neville continued, "It is bizarre that a player who isn't good enough to be a Manchester United forward has brought more profit to the team. I believe that Ronaldo is the greatest player of all time, but Weghorst is not fit to lace his boots."
Gary Neville suggested that the reason Ronaldo was left out of the Manchester United team was due to the statistics, and that Weghorst is not as good as Ronaldo. However, he also stated that neither player should currently be playing for Manchester United, and that it is more important to see who the manager picks.
When asked by Jamie Carragher whether he would choose Ronaldo or Weghorst to play for Manchester United, Neville responded that it would depend on the game, but if he were playing at Old Trafford, he would choose Ronaldo, and if he were playing away from home, he would choose Weghorst.
