Wolves star scores wonderful goal to welcome Frank Lampard back to management

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Nunes welcomed Frank Lampard back to management, with a wonderful strike reminiscent of Marco van Basten, as Chelsea lost once again.

If someone had said even a week ago that Lampard would be Chelsea manager again this weekend you'd have sent them for a checkup at the doctor, if you could have got an appointment.

No, but seriously, no one would have imagined that the club's all time top goalscorer would have been back just two years after getting sacked.

That was especially in true in January, after he had lost his job at Everton by leaving the Toffees second bottom of the Premier League, but now he's back, following Graham Potter's sacking.

Having watched his side in their dreadful 0-0 draw with Liverpool in midweek, he'd have known the size of the task in getting the frontline scoring, even if he was all smiles on his return.

His first match in charge came on Saturday, as he and his team travelled to the Midlands to take on Julen Lopetegui's relegation threatened side.

In just the 31st minute, Nunes gave the former Blues midfielder a bigger reminder of what needed to be done, by scoring a goal the former England star would have been very proud of.

Koulibaly headed a cross clear and, on the half volley, Nunes smashed it home from the angle, sending fans rightly into raptures at the player's first goal for the club.

"WHAT A GOAL FROM MATHEUS NUNES," one fan shouted.

"Holy f**k Matheus Nunes!", exclaimed a second.

Reminding everyone of legendary Dutch striker Van Basten, against USSR at Euro 1988, which was admittedly on the full volley, commentator Rob Draper tweeted, "Matheus Nunes is Marco van Basten, that is all."

"Van Basten come outside," joked a another fan.

"Nunes with a goal of the season contender," said another supporter who was at the game, "The sound Molineux just made - we’ve seen something spectacular."

Liverpool fans were getting very excited by the goal, having seen their team be linked with a move for the player, with one adding, "Matheus Nunes with the Gerrard-esque screamer! Another candidate for our midfield revolution."

Lampard saw his team end up with 13 shots, but just one was on target, whilst Nunes goal was enough for the win for the home side.

The old/new manager is now closer to the relegation zone than the top four, for the second time and for the second club this season.
