Lampard Mocks Klopp After He Injured Himself While Celebrating Winner vs Spurs

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard made a cheeky reference to Jurgen Klopp’s exuberant celebration during Liverpool’s dramatic win over Tottenham at the start of his pre-match press conference on Monday.

The Merseysiders looked to be on course for a very one-sided victory over the north Londoners on Sunday, taking a 3-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes courtesy of Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

But Spurs pulled off an unlikely fightback, with Harry Kane netting just before half-time and Son Heung-min grabbing another goal midway through the second period.

In stoppage time, ex-Everton forward Richarlison equalised with his first Premier League goal for Tottenham but he had barely put his shirt back on by the time Diogo Jota had capitalised on Lucas Moura’s horror pass to seal a breath-taking 4-3 win for the hosts.

Klopp had been livid with some of the refereeing in the match – accusing Paul Tierney of having an agenda against his side – and celebrated the winner by running up to the fourth official.

The German coach was particularly riled up over Tottenham being awarded a free-kick in their own box after Ben Davies was caught by a flailing arm from Salah – though the incident drew blood and the Welshman was actually off the pitch receiving treatment when Spurs scored.

Still, Klopp made a beeline for John Brooks after Jota’s goal and seemed to scream in his face before suddenly clutching his hamstring, with his sprint having pulled a muscle, and he was seen hobbling around at the end of the game.

‘I’m not sure it’s a hamstring,’ Klopp told Sky Sports afterwards about the injury. ‘It could be an adductor as well. It’s painful.’

Lampard – who is preparing his Chelsea side to take on Arsenal on Tuesday night at the Emirates – clearly watched the match and referenced Klopp’s injury during his pre-match press conference.

When asked by a journalist if he had been out practicing his shots like he used to, Lampard cheekily replied:

‘That was a long time ago, trust me! I’d be pulling a hamstring like Jurgen did!’

Klopp conceded after Sunday’s game that his celebration in front of the fourth official had been ‘unnecessary’ before claiming referee Tierney had said something to him when he brandished a yellow card that ‘was not OK’.

He did not clarify what was said, however, and PGMOL have since released a statement saying they refuted Klopp’s claims.

‘PGMOL is aware of the comments made by Jurgen Klopp after his side’s fixture with Tottenham. Having fully reviewed the audio of referee Paul Tierney from today’s fixture, we can confirm he acted in a professional manner throughout including when issuing the caution to the Liverpool manager so, therefore, we strongly refute any suggestion that Tierney’s actions were improper.’
