Man City winning the treble would be ‘fair’ as they are the ‘best team in the world' - XAVI

Barcelona boss Xavi believes it would be 'fair' if Manchester City ended up winning the treble this season and feels the Premier League champions under his old boss Pep Guardiola is a 'mirror' to look up to.

City are in the running for three competitions this season. The Etihad Stadium club have retaken the lead at the summit of the Premier League from Arsenal over the weekend.

Guardiola's side beat the Gunners in midweek before beating Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday. It has seen them move a point clear of Arsenal with a game in hand. City are also into the Champions League semi-finals with a mouthwatering tie against 14-times European champions Real Madrid with Guardiola's men travel to the Santiago Bernabeu next Tuesday for the first leg.

And they are into the FA Cup final against cross-town rivals Manchester United. The all-Manchester affair takes place at Wembley Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, June 3.

Xavi of course played under Guardiola during a glittering spell at Barcelona where the midfielder won three La Liga titles, a pair of Copa del Reys and two Champions League crowns playing for his former boss. Xavi himself is now boss at Camp Nou, where Barca sit 11 points clear at the summit ahead of fierce rivals Real.

Speaking about City, Xavi feels it would be fair if the Etihad Stadium club did claim the treble this season, matching an achievement done by rivals United in 1999. He believes the best team in the world right now also have the number one boss in the game in the form of Guardiola. with the former midfielder admitting the football City play is something Barca look up to.

As per the Mirror, he said: "Of course, it would [be fair]. In my opinion, they are the best team in the world right now.

"They have the best manager in the world and the quality of football they play is a mirror for us to look up to."
