PSG step up pursuit of Roma coach Mourinho

There are growing reports that Roma coach Jose Mourinho is in negotiations to take over as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain next season.

According to RMC Sport, Mou has so far kept himself largely out of the discussions, leaving the matter entirely to his agent Jorge Mendes, who is dealing directly with PSG director Luis Campos.

The Ligue 1 giants have made it clear for some time that they will not stick with current boss Christophe Galtier after another early Champions League exit.

Mourinho built his reputation on winning the Champions League with unfancied clubs, FC Porto in 2004 and Inter in 2010, so could be the man to end PSG’s long and fruitless search for European glory.

It would also make a great deal of sense considering Mourinho has been increasingly and openly frustrated at the lack of budget afforded to him at Roma.

After every match, whether it is a win or defeat, he will point out they do not have the squad sufficient to handle more than one tournament, despite reaching the Europa League semi-finals.

PSG have a practically limitless budget and are seeking a strong personality on the bench to keep their various big egos in check.

Mourinho made more worrying comments in his press conference after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Inter.

“I am more than a coach here. I am a coach, but I do more than the job of a coach.”
