Rafa Benitez leaves Newcastle fans in stitches over blunder in deleted tweet

Rafael Benitez has left Newcastle fans chuckling after a Twitter gaffe following their Champions League qualification.

The Magpies will be in Europe’s elite competition next season after a stellar Premier League campaign guaranteed them a top four finish before the final day.

Eddie Howe’s side drew 0-0 with Leicester on Monday night, with one point enough to guarantee a top-four finish.

Benitez was the last manager to help Newcastle to silverware, winning the Championship in 2017.

The Spaniard was certainly in the spotlight, with his post, lauding his former employers but his error wasn’t horsing around.

His tweet read: “Congratulations to all involved. Howdy the lads!”

Clearly an attempt to write ‘Howay’ intended to touch base with the Geordie fanbase – not a revelation he’s become a cowboy as he awaits a new job.

Though the post was swiftly deleted and replaced with the correct spelling, supporters posted about their enjoyment of the error.

One fan said: “Autocorrect has gifted the world something magical.”

Another added: “We have all had the spellchecker duck up a tweet.”

Specsavers even weighed in on the act adding: “Must’ve gone to a cowboy optician

Before a fourth fan simply replied: “Sherrif Rafa.”
