VIDEO: Erling Haaland given guard of honour after breaking Premier League record

Erling Haaland received a guard of honour at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday on a record-breaking evening in which he netted the 35th goal of his Premier League season.

Manchester City cruised past West Ham United with a 3-0 win to reassert themselves as league leaders, following Arsenal's 3-1 victory against Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

After failing to break down a resilient Hammers side in the first half, the Blues eventually took the lead shortly after the break when Nathan Ake drifted in at the back post to head in Riyad Mahrez's cross.

City asserted their dominance after that and when Danny Ings' loose pass fell to Jack Grealish, he broke and played in Haaland whose deft chip over Lukasz Fabianski made him the Premier League's highest one-season goalscorer with an incredible 35 goals in 31 appearances.

Phil Foden scored on his return with five minutes left and as the players celebrated on the pitch after the final whistle, Pep Guardiola was spotted gathering his players towards the tunnel with Haaland in the centre circle.

The Norwegian ran through his guard of honour, although rather than clap the rest of the squad gave him a slap on the head. He looked very grateful nonetheless and thanked his teammates afterwards.

The goal was also Haaland's 50th across all competitions this season, those goals coming from just 44 appearances. The 22-year-old's average of 1.33 goals every 90 minutes is by far and away the best across Europe's top five leagues, with Victor Osimhen second on 0.90.
