Barcelona One Step Closer to Historic Six-Trophy Season

FC Barcelona fans could be short of fingers on one hand to count the number of league titles the club will win this season.

After Saras Jasikevicius' team won the basketball league on Tuesday against Real Madrid with a resounding 3-0 series victory, all that remains is to clinch the futsal league for a historic six-trophy season. It has never been achieved before.

Prior to Tuesday, four of the club's teams had already lifted their respective league titles: the men's and women's football sides, roller hockey and handball. The futsal section also has everything in their favour to win the league.

Jesus Velasco's team are 2-0 up in the final and on Friday they can clinch the title if they beat Jaen in the Olivo Arena.

In his first full season in charge of the team, Xavi Hernández has managed to bring the team back to being league champions three seasons after the last one, achieved by Ernesto Valverde.

Joan Laporta took a risk with the project and thanks to the levers he was able to bring players to the club that increased the competitive level of the squad.

Xavi then put together a very solid team with four midfielders, in which the goals of Robert Lewandowski and the saves of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the league's top scorer and Zamora Trophy winners respectively, were key to winning the title.

The Blaugrana have been much more consistent than Real Madrid and Atlético, their closest challengers, and despite the fact that they won many games by the narrowest of margins, they completely dominated the championship.

Barça won the title with four games to spare in the derby against Espanyol at the Cornellà-El Prat stadium.
