VIDEO: Lionel Messi Makes His Acting Debut in Los Protectores

It appears as if Lionel Messi has moved on to acting after winning everything there is to win in soccer. The Argentine star has made his acting debut in ‘Los Protectores’, which is an Argentine show. Streamed on the Star Plus platform in Argentina, Messi will appear in the second season of ‘Los Protectores’, which aired yesterday. However, Messi is not the first soccer star to try his hand at acting. 

Before Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr appeared in the hugely popular series Money Heist. Moreover, David Beckham also had a brief cameo appearance in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. 

While Messi has previously appeared in numerous commercials for multiple brands like Adidas, Pepsi, Lay’s, and Gatorade, this is the first time we will see him in a TV show. 

‘Los Protectores’ is a comedy-drama show directed by Mark Canervale which was released in March 2022. The parts involving Messi were shot in Paris and the remaining parts were shot in Buenos Aires. While the world already knows about the former PSG star’s out-of-the-world soccer ability, it appears as if his acting skills aren’t that bad either. 



Colombian actor Andres Parra, who plays the role of Reynaldo “Colombia” Moran in the show, praised Messi’s acting skills. He said, “It really surprised us all, not only with his quality as a person but also with his acting quality.” 

For viewers in the USA, they can watch Lionel Messi in ‘Los Protectores’ on Disney Plus. However, the viewers will need to install a VPN before being able to watch the show.

‘Los Protectores’ involves around three very different soccer agents which are played by Gustavo Bermúdez, Andres Parra, and Adrian Suar. The three agents aim to sign a major international soccer star to save themselves from going bankrupt. The sequence which involves Lionel Messi shows the three agents visiting the soccer star in Paris. 

As per the reports, the agents propose a business plan for supporting youth players. Although Messi initially seems interested in the project, he gets irritated by the agents who constantly harass him for pictures. Messi responds, “It seems to me that you are out of place, how are you going to come to offer me business here? It’s to give you a pineapple, honestly.”

 “They didn’t tell me this, they said they were going to talk to me about a project of the boys. What I do, I don’t do it for business.” Messi also gets into a hilarious stare-off with one of the agents in the scene. At the end of the scene, Messi can be seen making a toast with the three agents.
