West Ham win Europa Conference League, end 43-year trophy drought

It is a result that will go down in the history books of West Ham United Football Club.

On Wednesday evening, at the Fortuna Arena in Prague, the Hammers lifted their first major trophy in 58 years after goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen sealed a dramatic 2-1 win against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.

David Moyes' side, who beat Gent and AZ Alkmaar in the latter stages of this season's tournament, restricted their Serie A opponents to a limited amount of shots throughout and with 62 minutes played, West Ham were rewarded for their efforts when Cristiano Biraghi's handled in the area.

A cool, calm and collected Said Benrahma proceeded to convert from 12 yards with an emphatic strike from the penalty spot – a goal that brought incredible scenes from the travelling support.

West Ham's slender lead lasted a grand total of five minutes, however, after experienced midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura equalised with a clever strike that bounced across Alphonse Areola and into the corner.

Bonaventura, who became the oldest Italian scorer in a major European final since Paolo Maldini against Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final, took his goal well and Fiorentina looked dangerous afterwards.

But then, in the 89th minute, Man of the Match contender Lucas Paqueta played Jarrod Bowen through with a wonderful cutting pass before the England international slotted away with a composed finish.

An emotional David Moyes celebrated by pumping his fists at the travelling support as the likes of Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Thilo Kehrer surrounded goalscorer Bowen. What a moment.
