Ake Commits Future to City After Key Role in Treble-Winning Season

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has signed a new four-year contract with the club, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2027.

The 28-year-old Netherlands international has been an integral part of Pep Guardiola's squad since joining from Bournemouth in 2020, making 41 appearances in all competitions last season.

Ake was a key figure in City's memorable treble-winning campaign, playing at both centre-back and left-back. He also scored the winning goal in the League Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to the club's website, Ake said: "This is the best club in the world, I have no doubts about that. Being a Manchester City player makes me incredibly proud every single day.

"It's a football club that expects excellence in every area, which makes for the perfect environment to improve. It drives me on and makes me better. I am at the stage of my career where I want to keep developing and I can definitely do that here."

Ake's new contract is a major boost for City, who are looking to defend their Premier League title and compete for the Champions League next season.

Director of football Txiki Begiristain said: "We have been delighted with Nathan's development, so it's great news for this football club that he is extending his time with us.

"There is no doubt he was a very important part of our treble success last season, but I believe he can be even better."

Ake's contract extension is the latest in a series of positive news stories for City, who have also announced the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

With Ake and Haaland now in their squad, City are looking to build on their success of last season and challenge for even more silverware in the years to come.
