MLS tweets picture of Alvaro Arbeloa instead of Sergio Busquets as midfielder joins Inter Miami
Life in Major League Soccer didn't get off to the smoothest start for Sergio Busquets on Sunday, with the league's Twitter accounting mistakenly welcoming his Inter Miami move with a picture of former Spain teammate Alvaro Arbeloa.
Miami confirmed that the legendary midfielder has joined on a contract through to 2025 and MLS tweeted out a graphic showing all the trophies the midfielder has won throughout his glittering career.
But next to the list of all the trophies Busquets has won was a picture of the former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa kissing the World Cup from when Spain and Busquets won the tournament in 2010.
It was, of course, immediately noticed by fans across Twitter, leaving MLS with no option but to take ownership of the error.
'Why do arbeloa and busquets look so similar in these. admin needs new glasses,' the account tweeted, with a new image of Busquets holding the World Cup.
Busquets is set to join his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi at the official unveiling in Miami on Sunday evening.
Upon completing his Miami move, Busquets said: 'This is a special and exciting opportunity that I’m very excited to take.
'I’m looking forward to this next step in my career with Inter Miami. I was impressed by the club when I came with Barcelona last year and now I’m happy and ready to represent the club myself.
'I can’t wait to help bring the success that this ambitious club strives for.'
He is in contention to play his first game for Miami on Friday, July 21 against Cruz Azul in the newly formed Leagues Cup.
Miami, meanwhile, is last in the MLS Eastern Conference and has not won in 11 games.
The team is 12 points away from the playoff places, meaning it is an uphill struggle for Busquets, Messi and Co to make the post-season.
Another former Barcelona star, Jordi Alba, is set to follow Busquets and Messi to Miami soon.
MLS might want to double-check its planned Tweets now...
