Bryan Gil to miss start of season after groin surgery
Tottenham winger Bryan Gil has confirmed that he will miss the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season after undergoing surgery on his groin.
Gil, who joined Spurs from Sevilla in July 2021, made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites last season, but was limited to a bit-part role under Antonio Conte.
The 22-year-old was back at Hotspur Way for the start of pre-season training this summer, but was not one of the 31 players who jetted off on Tottenham's Asia-Pacific tour.
A statement from Tottenham read: "We can confirm that Bryan Gil has undergone surgery to resolve an issue in his groin. Bryan, who spent the second part of last season on loan at Sevilla, will be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training."
Gil uploaded a photo of himself on a hospital bed to his Instagram stories after the surgery, saying: "Everything has turned out great, thanks for the messages of support."
The Spain international's absence will leave Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou with a decision to make over his attacking options.
Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Ivan Perisic are all available to Postecoglou, but the latter's future is up in the air as he is in the final year of his contract.
Postecoglou could look to bring in another attacker before the end of the summer transfer window, or he could give Gil more time to recover from his surgery.
