Gabriel Jesus Arsenal injury blow confirmed as Mikel Arteta puts timeline on return

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an update on injured striker Gabriel Jesus.

On Wednesday evening, Arsenal were back on home soil as they took on French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco in the Emirates Cup final.

Youssouf Fofana gave the visitors the lead after 31 minutes before Eddie Nketiah dragged the Gunners level with two minutes left of the first half. After 90 minutes, the match was tied at 1-1.

Arsenal ended up lifting the trophy after winning 5-4 on penalties.

Prior to the match, it was revealed that Arsenal star striker Jesus has sustained a knee injury.

The club tweeted: “Gabby Jesus misses tonight's game due to a knee issue and will be assessed.”

Arteta has now given an update on Jesus.

Speaking after Arsenal’s match against Monaco, Arteta said: “He had a little procedure this morning, he’s injured unfortunately.

“He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in.”

He added: “He’s going to be out for a few weeks.”

This latest update will concern Arsenal fans as they are set to take on Manchester City for the FA Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Since joining Arsenal from City last summer, Jesus has made 33 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.

The Brazilian missed 15 matches during the 22/23 campaign through another knee problem.

Ahead of the season, Arteta said: “We have to find that balance in the next few days before the new Premier League season starts.”

“We have got some fresh faces in the squad this year, and I am so pleased that we were able to bring these signings in early in the transfer window so we’ve been able to work with them.”
