Man Utd main man Mason Mount 'doesn't even make Aston Villa bench' in brutal Agbonlahor verdict
Gabriel Agbonlahor has delivered a scathing assessment of one of Manchester United's newest recruits.

Gabriel Agbonlahor has sensationally claimed that the Manchester United new boy, Mason Mount is not even good enough to make the bench for Aston Villa, let alone play a starring role for the Red Devils next season.

Mount joined United from Chelsea earlier this summer for a transfer fee of around £55 million and is widely expected to become an important player for Erik ten Hag when the Premier League resumes later this month.

The England midfielder will be looking to rediscover his best form at United after struggling to impress at Chelsea over the course of last season, with his final year at Stamford Bridge having been disrupted by the breakdown in contract negotiations with the Blues. However, it seems as though Agbonlahor is not expecting Mount to pull up any trees in his new surroundings after raising major questions over his ability to succeed with the Red Devils.

Aston Villa's former striker went as far to suggest that Mount is not even good enough to make the bench for his old club, telling talkSPORT: "He doesn't even make the bench, mate. He's the last sub on the bench. Mason Mount is nowhere near making that team, nowhere near.

"Are you joking? [I'd have John McGinn over Mount] all day, every day of the week, I think everyone would. McGinn's outstanding, outstanding player. Come on, we need some more Villa love on this channel."

Mount has been featuring heavily for United in pre-season and looks to be settling in nicely so far, although only time will tell how he will fare when the competitive action begins later this month. It seems likely that Mount will be given a prominent role in the middle of the park in his first season at Old Trafford but Ten Hag will need to find a way to include him alongside the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen, who will also be hoping to play regularly next season.

The Dutchman has already suggested that Mount could be poised to steal Eriksen's spot in the United side if he manages to hit the ground running, although he was quick to insist that the former Chelsea man is by no means the finished product and still needs work in order to reach his full potential.

"I think you've seen today what he can bring," said Ten Hag following Mount's 45-minute cameo against Leeds United last month. "He's ball-secure, has good solutions on the ball, is dynamic and is good at defending. He is a complete midfield player.

"He has some areas he has to work on but, in general, he's a very good player who suits us and can help us achieve our goals. He was great, but we all expected this from him. This was just his first game, but he's going to contribute to our performance so much. We know his capabilities and he will absolutely increase the level of our team.

"It's exciting that we have him, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, but don’t forget we also have other options, for example, Christian Eriksen. One of the options we have is Bruno, Casemiro and Mason and we have to see how that develops, how it progresses in pre-season and going into the season."
