Man Utd players 'would support Greenwood's return'

Senior Manchester United players would reportedly support Mason Greenwood’s reintegration at the club.

Greenwood hasn’t featured for United in 18 months and the club is yet to release the decision of their six-month investigation into the 21-year-old having previously suspended the striker.

It was confirmed by the Crown Prosecution Service in February that charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour against Greenwood had been dropped.

And while United’s decision on Greenwood is ‘imminent' a number of senior players are said to back the England international’s return to the squad.

According to The Sun, a source has revealed that United players are willing to back their team-mate whose future is yet to be resolved one way or another.

The source claimed: “All the players believe he deserves a second chance because he’s innocent in the eyes of the law.

"He didn’t have the opportunity to clear his name in court because the charges were dropped, so the players feel like he has been left in limbo. They know it will be difficult but they are willing to support him through it, and protect him.

“Some of the younger players came through the academy with him so there’s a loyalty to him. They know he’s made mistakes but the lads who’ve spoken to him say he’s grown up a lot in the past 18 months and will come back a lot wiser.”
Following the breakdown of his trial, Greenwood is able to continue his football career but whether or not he will be re-integrated at Old Trafford remains to be seen.

Erik ten Hag has previously been vocal on the forward’s future, saying: "It's a club decision. Of course I have said my ideas and opinions but it's a club decision. We all have to accept that.

"I can't say so much about it. But what I say is I shared my opinion about it so let's see what's going to happen and what the decision will be."
