Joao Felix joined Barcelona on loan for the 2023-24 season on September 1, 2023, the last day of the transfer window. He left Atletico Madrid because he was unhappy with his role under manager Diego Simeone and wanted to fulfill his dream of playing for Barcelona.
After last night game against Luxembourg, Barca forward has this to say:
"I think I'm comfortable starting on the left side," Joao Felix has told Diario Sport.
"I've already been playing there for some time, and I think that is where Xavi likes to see me the Portuguese added.
Joao Felix is expected to replace one of Barca's four midfielders in some games by playing on the left wing. Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal would complete the trio upfront.
The Portuguese will most likely cut inside during games, allowing Alejandro Balde to cover the entire wing.
Joao Felix had a great performance in the 9-0 victory over Luxembourg last night. He came off the bench in the second half and scored a stunning goal in the 88th minute.
He received the ball with his back to goal, turned quickly and fired a powerful shot into the top corner. It was his first goal for Portugal since November 2020 and his first for Barcelona since joining on loan from Atletico Madrid.
He also showed his versatility and creativity by playing in different positions and linking up well with his teammates. He was praised by his coach Roberto Martinez, who said he was very happy with his contribution.
Joao Felix told SPORT that he felt good physically and mentally and that he was ready to start strong for Barcelona. He also said he was surprised by the affection from the Barca fans and that he wanted to help the team.
Joao Felix is expected to feature in Barcelona’s next game against Real Betis on Saturday at Montjuic.
