Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on 16th September 20231. This was the third United defeat in five Premier League outings and the second on the bounce, leaving Erik ten Hag’s side with six points.

The scorers for Brighton were Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and João Pedro. United were threatened only sporadically apart from the opening 15 minutes. Two-nil down on the hour, Ten Hag acted, introducing Hannibal Mejbri and Anthony Martial for Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund.

However, one of Roberto De Zerbi’s changes was João Pedro and, as with Brighton’s previous two goals, the striker was left unmarked and able to blaze past André Onana. This prompted some fans to depart but Mejbri, perhaps disgusted at his colleagues’ capitulation, strode forward and powered a piledriver past Jason Steele.

Manchester United fans showed unwavering support for Cristiano Ronaldo as their team endured a disappointing 3-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.

The new season has been challenging for Erik ten Hag's squad, especially since it commenced without the Portuguese superstar, who departed by mutual agreement late last year.

In the corresponding fixture in 2022, Ronaldo indeed found the net, and a vocal section of supporters eagerly chanted his name within the stadium.

In a video widely circulated on social media, the resounding chant of "Viva Ronaldo" reverberated throughout the stadium, demonstrating the strong backing for the current Al-Nassr captain.

Manchester United fans expressed their disappointment following the team’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton. Fans online took aim at Andre Onana, who joined the club for £47.2 million from Inter Milan during the summer transfer window, as he’s now conceded a whopping 10 goals in the opening five league matches.

Here are some of the reactions from fans:
One user wrote: "How did they nominate Andre Onana for the FIFA best keeper category? This guy is just not good."
A second said: "Every shot towards Onana is a goal…"
A third added: "Onana is literally Kepa 2.0 every shot he faces is a goal."
The defeat was greeted with jeers by the home support, and some fans even departed early from the match. The pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag at this early stage of the 2023/24 campaign.
