"You have to take care of Lamine [Yamal], because he is young, but do you remember Messi or Maradona at 16?" Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has told the media.
"We should not put any limits on such players. We must let them develop their full potential. That's what we're trying to do with this player [Yamal] here and at his club [Barcelona]," he added.
Barcelona reportedly didn't like De la Fuente's remarks. The club are doing their best to protect the 16-year-old on and off the pitch, not allowing any extra pressure to kick in.
The Spain boss, however, doesn't hesitate to compare Yamal to young Leo Messi and Diego Maradona already. Surely he should back down a little.
Lamine Yamal has been called up to Spain's senior side for the second time in a row. He will be able to play against Scotland and Norway in October.
