USA squad ahead October friendly matches vs Germany, Ghana 2023

Gregg Berhalter and the U.S. men’s national team are gearing up for the 2024 Copa America and 2026 FIFA World Cup with friendly matches against Germany and Ghana this month.

The U.S. will first face Germany in Hartford, Connecticut on October 14. The Germans, who are ranked 15th, have a new head coach, Julian Nagelsmann. This match will mark Nagelsmann’s debut as head coach, after leaving his position at Bayern Munich in March.

While most European countries are engaged in Euro 2024 qualifying, Germany, as the host of the tournament, qualifies automatically. This leaves their schedule open for this friendly match.

Following this, the U.S. will head to GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee for a friendly against Ghana on October 17. The two countries have a history of intense matches, including three consecutive World Cup tournaments in 2006, 2010, and 2014.

The USMNT squad for the October friendlies was revealed on Thursday, October 5. Berhalter has selected 23 players for these matches, which is one less than the number called up for the friendlies against Uzbekistan and Oman last month.

Here is the official 23-man roster for the upcoming October friendlies against Germany and Ghana.

Malik Tillman of PSV had to withdraw from the squad due to injury. Alex Zendejas of Club America has been named as his replacement.
