Barcelona has set high asking price for the wantaway defender at Camp Nou as suitors considered another alternative to the signing.

Barcelona has placed €50m on Samuel Umtiti and the likes of Manchester United, Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur were left baffled with the asking price placed on the injury-prone defender.

Manchester United is ready to unsettle Real Madrid for the signature of Raphael Varane while Napoli and Tottenham will look elsewhere for their recruitment.

The report in Gazzetta Dello Sport says Napoli feel the French World Cup winner is too expensive for them and will look at alternative options.

Though Barcelona is ready to cash in on the French defender if the price is right and the Camp Nou directors may also consider reducing the price tag place of the defender as a result of the COVID-19 that has affected the financial aspect of football in the recent months.

Umtiti is a quality player no doubt but he has been battling with injuries upon injuries and any club that wants him should be aware of the fact that there is an element of a gamble to be taken in the deal to sign him.
