Espanyol will face Barcelona in the Catalan derby at the Camp Nou with the host aiming to wrestle the La Liga title from arch-rivals Real Madrid while Espanyol is fighting to avoid relegation to the Segunda division.
Espanyol will be out to ensure they get a result against their local rivals which is almost an impossible task considering the tension in the La Liga race right now.
Only a win will do for Los Periquitos to prevent them from dropping to the lower division and there is one positive thing Espanyol can take the whole situation, it’s that there won’t be any supporters in the stands at the Camp Nou.
The Camp Nou crowd would have chants of ‘A Segunda’ [ ‘to the second division’] would have been inevitable, so Espanyol is spared the embarrassment on this occasion.
In the first leg Barcelona drew against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium earlier this season, but they haven’t got a result at the Camp Nou since February 2009.
Espanyol will have to go out to play for their fans as they face a herculean task to survival relegation against a wounded Barcelona who is four points behind Real Madrid on the La Liga table.
