Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed they will fight for the top 4 next season

Arsenal finished eighth last season but the boss is sure that his squad is already strong enough to fight for a Champions League spot.

During the pre-Liverpool presser, Mikel Arteta was asked whether his squad are ready to mount a top-four challenge.

"Well, let’s see how we look like at the end of the transfer window," he replied as quoted by Arsenal's website.

"It just started and everything looks pretty slow at the moment not many teams are moving aggressively so a lot of things are going to happen from now to October 6 [the closing date of the transfer window].

"But it doesn’t matter who we have, we will challenge for the top, 100 per cent."

The Gunners have been out of the Champions League for four consecutive years, including this campaign.

Last season, we finished eighth, which is the worst result since 1994/95 when we ended the season twelfth.

Even though Arteta beams confidence, this squad still requires strengthening. Midfield is the area of particular concern. While Dani Ceballos' loan extension is not sealed yet and his future remains unclear, we have to sign at least one player to that area.

Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar are believed to be on top of the manager's wish list. But Arsenal will have to splash around £100m to get them both.
