Barcelona wants to build another winning cycle alongside the best player in the world: Ramon Planes

Messi informed the club over his desire to quit the Catalans this summer and Barca chiefs 'are working internally to convince Messi to stay', says Planes.

"We want to build another winning cycle alongside the best player in the world. We all continue to count on Messi," Barcelona technical director Ramon Planes said on Wednesday.

"We are not contemplating a departure of Messi. We want Messi to stay."

On Tuesday, Lionel Messi informed the Catalans over his desire to leave the club this summer. The 33-year-old wants to quit Barca on a free transfer as a clause in his contract allows him to do so.

The club, however, insist that the clause expired on June 10 while Messi's camp believe that it's valid until August 31.

Barca could take the Argentine to court is he refuses to play for them. Planes is adamant such thing should not happen under no circumstances.

"We can't make this a fight between Messi and Barca because neither of them deserves it," he added. "We have to have a lot of respect for the players who have given a lot to the club."
