Chelsea made good use of the coronavirus period: Bayer director Rudi Voller speaks on Havertz signing

Speaking to Bild about Kai Havertz's move to London, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said: "They simply made good use of the coronavirus period.

"Next year it would have been much harder for Chelsea to get Kai. [Other teams] preferred to hold back because of the high transfer fee in this special and uncertain time.

"We also have significant revenue losses in times of the coronavirus. We will of course take that into account and certainly not completely reinvest the transfer fee we got for Kai."

Kai Havertz sealed a move to Stamford Bridge last month for a transfer fee of £75 million, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid were reportedly interested in the German as well but the Blues managed to convince the 21-year-old to be a part of their project.
