Fati and Coutinho show class: Barcelona vs Villarreal player Rating

I think that game was Barcelona best game ever in years, Koeman doing something great with our dead team.

Here's how our players fared in the first official match of the Ronald Koeman era.

Ansu Fati — 9
After a so-so performance against Elche in the Joan Gamper Trophy, Ansu Fati faced Villarreal hungry for goals. The youngster recorded only two shots but it was enough for him to get a brace to his name. The 17-year-old was a constant threat to the visitors' defence, as his runs had Mario Gaspar and Raul Albiol trembling.

Jordi Alba — 8
Credit where credit is due, Jordi Alba had a hell of a match against the Yellow Submarine. The left-back had both Leo Messi and Philippe Coutinho feeding him with through balls. The 30-year-old took advantage of Villarreal's sloppy defending and put up a show like in his prime years, registering an assist and coming close to scoring himself.

Leo Messi — 8
It's hard to say what exact position Ronald Koeman wants the Argentine to play in. Leo started as a centre-forward but he drifted to the right wing oftentimes and even dropped in midfield on a few occasions. Anyways, Messi had a solid performance, converting a penalty and creating some dangerous moments for his teammates. The own goal from Pau Torres also came after a lobbed pass from him.

Philippe Coutinho — 7.5
The new coach decided to give the Brazilian a second chance at Camp Nou and Coutinho has been repaying Koeman's trust through his performances. Philippe looked more confident on the ball than before, not afraid to ignore Messi at times. It looks like the 28-year-old will be among the players that benefit the most from the new 4-2-3-1 formation.

Sergio Busquets — 5.5
Judging from his performance against Villarreal, Sergio Busquets' time as an undisputed starter should be over. Although he has had a few good moments — like stopping a dangerous attack and finding Messi with a trademark between-the-lines pass — his performance was bleak, to say the least. Sergio is a very intelligent player, but his body no longer allows him to play at the level we need.

Antoine Griezmann — 4
Antoine Griezmann played as a right winger for some reason, only at times moving to centre-forward. The Frenchman was cut off from the rest of the team, we barely saw him touch the ball. As usual, he did a lot of defensive work, covering for himself and for Messi, but his contribution in attack was non-existent.
