Former Barcelona President Laporta set to confirm his intention to run for the presidency in the upcoming election.

Joan Laporta will soon formally confirm his intentions to take part in Barcelona's presidential elections next year, Deportes Cuatro reveal.

He is already building a team to support his candidacy.

Leo Messi is going to be the cornerstone of his campaign.

Laporta served as Barca's chief between 2003 and 2010 and was behind Pep Guardiola's appointment.

He already promised to bring the legendary coach back while speaking to El Temps last year.

Lluis Fernandez Ala, Agusti Benedito, Victor Font and Jordi Farre are the other confirmed candidates for the Barcelona presidency.

The elections will take place in March rather than in June, the club confirmed last month.

However, they could be put forward if the vote of no confidence is successful.
