'I am a leader in my own way': Varane ready to take over from Ramos after Manchester City mistakes

City pounced on Varane's errors to dump Madrid out of the Champions League last month.

The Frenchman admits the 2-1 defeat was down to his personal mistakes and refuses to shift the blame.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Raphael Varane said: "I am a leader in my own way. With my team-mates, I talk a lot before matches about tactics and positioning. We each have our own way.

"For sure, that will not remain a very good memory in my career. It was a difficult game for me, this elimination. Immediately after the match I wanted to take responsibility."

The Frenchman was at fault during several episodes against Manchester City in the Champions League last month, struggling in Sergio Ramos' absence. Follow us on Google newsTwitter and on Facebook
