Maldini: Benzema was a prisoner of Real Madrid's tactical formation

The Spanish journalist believes it was a fair daw against Sociedad.

He added that it was tough for Benzema to drop deep and collect the ball.

La Liga expert and Marca journalist Julio Maldonado, also known as Maldini, said after Real Madrid's draw with Real Sociedad: "It was a fair draw.

"It was a very interesting match tactically, with Real Madrid playing a 4-2-3-1 with Martin Odegaard, although they struggled to find Odegaard.

"I also found it interesting the way Ferland Mendy played, as he played like he used to when he was at Lyon by playing inside since he knows Vinicius is a very wide type of winger.

"I feel like [Karim] Benzema didn't have his best game since he was a prisoner of the formation.

"It was tough for him having to drop so deep to receive the ball."

There are plenty of talking points from the 0-0 draw but Benzema's lack of impact has been the focus so far. Although Luka Jovic's future remains unclear, he could be a great option to provide competition for the 31-year-old this term.
