Modric open up on how he went from being Real Madrid worst signing to their best player.

The Croatian insists that all the early criticism about his lack of compatibility to Madrid only motivated him.

Modric acknowledges the fact that he was judged the worst signing of 2012/13 season in a poll but says he kept believing in his ability after that.

When asked about how he felt after being termed the ‘worst signing of the 2012/13 season’ in a poll set up by Catalan-based outlet Sport, Luka Modric told AFP: “There was always a lot of doubt around me – about my quality, my style, my physique.

“They said I was too weak to make it to the top but it didn’t affect me. It motivated me more. People judge people without knowing them, even more today with social media, which is why I stopped reading it a long time ago. I have my circle and I surround myself with positivity.

“I remember that poll and it wasn’t nice at the time but I believed in myself. I believed I would prove I should be a player for Real Madrid.”

Modric picked up his performance levels after that disappointing debut campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu and slowly became a pivotal part of our success.

He’s since won 4 Champions League titles, a number of La Liga titles and even became won the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2018! So it’s safe to say that he’s given an apt reply to his whoever doubted him after the start of his Real Madrid career.
