Werner does not have my characteristics, I hope to play: Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud

The striker said that a great club like Chelsea must have different options for eachh position on the field.

He adds that he has not spoken to Lampard about his future role at Chelsea but he is adamant that he will fight his way to the starting line-up.

“I haven’t talked to Lampard. One thing is certain, the competition will take us all to the top. A great club must have different options for each position,” Olivier Giroud told Telefoot when asked about his role at Chelsea in the upcoming season.

“I’m here, I finished the season well and showed the coach that he could count on me. Werner does not have my characteristics, I hope to play.”

The Frenchman started last season as Frank Lampard's third-choice striker. A true professional, the 33-year-old never complained and kept working hard and finished the campaign as a starter.

After the restart of the season, Giroud took part in 12 of Chelsea's 13 games across all competitions, started 9 of them and scored 7 goals. As a result, Chelsea offered the veteran a new one-year contract instead.

This is not the first time Giroud has said that the arrival of Werner does not faze him, and we're sure that this healthy competition between the two strikers will only make them better.
