Luis de la Fuente happy with Riqui Puig's 'confidence' after deciding to stay at Barcelona and fight for minutes

Luis de la Fuente says that 'circumstances change' so Puig might get his chance at Barca after all.
Puig hasn't been promoted to the first team despite the promises from the president.

"Riqui Puig? I have to congratulate a player who has the desire and the confidence to decide to bet on his quality and stay at Barcelona. I only have good words for someone with that conviction," Spain U21 coach Luis de la Fuente has said.

"Sometimes circumstances change, and I am sure that he is always going to give his best. He's in great shape."

As a reminder, Ronald Koeman has told Puig that it's going to be hard for him to get minutes at the first team this season and recommended he leaves on loan. However, the 21-year-old decided to stay nonetheless.

Despite promises from Josep Maria Bartomeu, the midfielder hasn't been promoted to the first team. He will continue being registered for Barca B and will wear the no.28 jersey for the rest of the season. So far, Puig is yet to make his first appearance under the new coach.

Alongside Riqui, Inaki Pena and Pedri have also been called up for Spain's U21 team.
